Sir Gilbert Jocelyn was a wealthy Norman knight. Lodge, Peerage
of England Vol. 3 p259 , revised 1789 asserted that Sir Gilbert
was the son of Egidius Josselin, a nobleman of Brittany who crossed
into England about 1045. Sir Gilbert was believed to have gone to
Brittany and returned to England with William the Conqueror (unproven).
Sir Gilbert held the lordships of Semperingham and Tyrrington. [1]

Order and was canonized in 1202 by Pope Innocent III as St. Gilbert
